Vi vill ocks\u00e5 f\u00f6rst\u00e5 hur f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar i den h\u00e4r balansen leder till sjukdomar hos m\u00e4nniskan och vad man kan g\u00f6ra f\u00f6r att f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttra uppt\u00e4ckten och behandlingen av s\u00e5dana sjukdomar. <\/p>\n<p>Kolesterol \u00e4r en v\u00e4sentlig best\u00e5ndsdel i d\u00e4ggdjurens cellmembran, d\u00e4r det dikterar viktiga biofysiska egenskaper hos membranet och deltar i lipid-proteininteraktioner. V\u00e5r grupp syftar till att f\u00f6rst\u00e5 hur kolesterol distribueras och transporteras mellan subcellul\u00e4ra organeller i m\u00e4nniskans celler och hur andra lipider och lipid-interagerande proteiner p\u00e5verkar processen. Vi \u00e4r ocks\u00e5 intresserade av att f\u00f6rst\u00e5 hur kolesterol lagras dynamiskt och frig\u00f6rs ur stora cellul\u00e4ra lagringsplatser, lipiddroppar, f\u00f6r att buffra membrankolesterolinneh\u00e5ll och kontrollera membranberoende funktioner. Det \u00e4r viktigt att notera att lipiddroppar vanligtvis lagrar b\u00e5de kolesterylestrar (CE) och triacylglyceroler (TAGs). Hur dessa lagringslipider samsekvestreras och metaboliskt samregleras \u00e4r inte alldeles klarlagt.    <\/p>\n<p>Dessa basfr\u00e5gor \u00e4r av grundl\u00e4ggande betydelse f\u00f6r normala cellul\u00e4ra funktioner och deras st\u00f6rningar \u00e4r f\u00f6rknippade med stora h\u00e4lsohot f\u00f6r m\u00e4nniskor, s\u00e5som hj\u00e4rt-k\u00e4rlsjukdomar och metabola komplikationer i fetma. Vi unders\u00f6ker just nu bl.a. den mekanistiska grunden f\u00f6r \u00f6verdriven lipidlagring i levern associerad med metabolisk fettleversjukdom och principer som ligger till grund f\u00f6r den defekta eller onormala lipidavs\u00e4ttningen vid humana lipodystrofisyndrom. <\/p>\n<p>Vi n\u00e4rmar oss dessa fr\u00e5gor genom att anv\u00e4nda en m\u00e4ngd olika molekyl- och cellbiologiska, biokemiska, biofysiska och avancerade avbildningsmetoder, i internationella samarbetssammanhang. Vi drar nytta av b\u00e5de v\u00e4lkarakteriserade cellinjer och prim\u00e4ra m\u00e4nskliga cell- och v\u00e4vnadsmaterial. Vi utvecklar och anv\u00e4nder ocks\u00e5 nya avbildningstekniker f\u00f6r att detektera lipider samt genteknikverktyg f\u00f6r att kontrollera beteendet hos lipidhanterande proteiner i cell- och
