Vi studerar tvillingar i den <b>finska Twin Cohort-studien<\/b> som till\u00e5ter olika studieutformningar f\u00f6r att bed\u00f6ma bidraget av genetik kontra milj\u00f6 n\u00e4r det g\u00e4ller epigenetiska processer. <b>V\u00e5r grupp str\u00e4var<\/b> efter att producera p\u00e5litliga biomark\u00f6rer f\u00f6r egenskaper och potentiella f\u00f6ruts\u00e4gande riskvariabler f\u00f6r vanliga sjukdomar, och att f\u00f6rst\u00e5 fenomenet \u00e5ldrande. <\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Fetma och mitokondriell funktion<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nEpigenetiska modifierare anv\u00e4nder metaboliter som kofaktorer som antingen produceras direkt i mitokondrier, eller s\u00e5 p\u00e5verkas deras produktion indirekt av metaboliska v\u00e4gar inom mitokondrierna. Den mitokondriella funktionen \u00e4r n\u00f6dv\u00e4ndig f\u00f6r den epigenetiska sammans\u00e4ttningen av nukle\u00e4rt DNA, som reglerar kromatinfunktionen inklusive uttrycket av gener som kodar mitokondriella proteiner. <\/p>\n<p>Vi antar att f\u00f6rs\u00e4mrad mitokondriell biogenes resulterar i f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar av nukle\u00e4rt DNA och hela kroppens metabola missanpassning vid fetma, s\u00e5v\u00e4l som vid accelererat \u00e5ldrande. Det \u00e4r viktigt att notera att dessa epigenetiska effekter kan vara reversibla. <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>\u00c5ldrande och livsstil<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Den st\u00e4ndigt \u00f6kande m\u00e4nskliga livsl\u00e4ngden har satt \u00e5ldrandet i centrum f\u00f6r folkh\u00e4lsopolitiken \u00f6ver hela v\u00e4rlden, men vi saknar en klar f\u00f6rst\u00e5else f\u00f6r varf\u00f6r och hur vi \u00e5ldras. \u00c4ven om den <b>kronologiska \u00e5ldern<\/b> korrelerar med olika \u00e5ldersrelaterade sjukdomar och tillst\u00e5nd, ger den biologiska \u00e5ldern b\u00e4ttre information om den allm\u00e4nna h\u00e4lsan och indikerar hur snabbt en person \u00e5ldras. Vi studerar biologiskt \u00e5ldrande, och hur olika livsstilar och riskfaktorer p\u00e5verkar graden av biologiskt \u00e5ldrande. Vi anv\u00e4nder <b>epigenetiska klockor<\/b>, som \u00e4r de mest lovande f\u00f6ruts\u00e4gande variablerna g\u00e4llande biologiskt \u00e5ldrande.   <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Vi antar att h\u00f6gre reproduktionsinvesteringar kan leda till p\u00e5skyndat biologiskt \u00e5ldrande och minskad h\u00e4lsa. Dessutom kan exponeringar och tillst\u00e5nd under m\u00e4nniskans tidiga \u00e5r och puberteten p\u00e5skynda \u00e5ldrandet och ha l\u00e5ngsiktiga effekter p\u00e5 h\u00e4lsan senare i livet.
