K\u00e4yt\u00e4mme tutkimuksessa <b>suomalaiseen kaksoskohorttitutkimukseen<\/b> osallistuneita kaksosia, mik\u00e4 mahdollistaa perim\u00e4n ja ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n vaikutuksien erottamisen toisistaan. <b>Ryhm\u00e4mme tavoitteena<\/b> on tuottaa luotettavia biomarkkereita ja sairausriskin ennustajia, sek\u00e4 ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4\u00e4 ik\u00e4\u00e4ntymist\u00e4 ilmi\u00f6n\u00e4. <\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Lihavuus ja mitokondrioiden toiminta<\/u><\/strong><br \/>\nEpigeneettiset s\u00e4\u00e4telytekij\u00e4t k\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4t aineenvaihduntatuotteita kofaktoreina, jotka joko tuotetaan suoraan mitokondrioissa tai joiden tuotantoon mitokondrioiden sis\u00e4iset aineenvaihduntareitit vaikuttavat ep\u00e4suorasti. Mitokondrioiden toiminta on v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4t\u00f6nt\u00e4 tuman DNA:n epigeneettiselle rakenteelle. Se s\u00e4\u00e4telee koko perim\u00e4aineksen toimintaa, mukaan lukien mitokondrioproteiineja koodaavien geenien ilmentymist\u00e4. <\/p>\n<p>Oletamme, ett\u00e4 heikentynyt mitokondrioiden toiminta aiheuttaa muutoksia tuman DNA:n metylaatiossa ja koko kehon aineenvaihdunnassa, sek\u00e4 johtaa ennenaikaiseen vanhenemiseen. Yksil\u00f6n terveyden kannalta on merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4, ett\u00e4 n\u00e4m\u00e4 epigeneettiset prosessit voivat olla palautuvia. <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Vanheneminen ja elintavat<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Ihmisten jatkuvasti pidentyv\u00e4 elinik\u00e4 on asettanut vanhenemisen terveydenhuoltopolitiikan keski\u00f6\u00f6n ymp\u00e4ri maailmaa. Meill\u00e4 ei kuitenkaan ole selke\u00e4\u00e4 ymm\u00e4rryst\u00e4 siit\u00e4, miksi ja miten vanhenemme. Vaikka kalenteri-ik\u00e4 korreloi erilaisten ik\u00e4\u00e4n liittyvien sairauksien kanssa, <b>biologinen ik\u00e4<\/b> antaa paremmin tietoa yleisest\u00e4 terveydentilasta ja kertoo ihmisen vanhenemisen nopeudesta. Tutkimme biologista vanhenemista ja sit\u00e4, miten erilaiset elintavat ja riskitekij\u00e4t vaikuttavat biologisen vanhenemisen nopeuteen. K\u00e4yt\u00e4mme <b>epigeneettisi\u00e4 kelloja<\/b>, jotka ovat lupaavimpia biologisen vanhenemisen ennustajia.   <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Oletamme, ett\u00e4 korkeampi lis\u00e4\u00e4ntymispanostus voi johtaa ennenaikaiseen biologiseen vanhenemiseen ja lyhemp\u00e4\u00e4n elinik\u00e4\u00e4n.
