Lihavuuden ja v\u00e4est\u00f6n ik\u00e4\u00e4ntymisen muodostaessa kaksi aikamme suurinta kansanterveydellist\u00e4 haastetta, on ensiarvoisen t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 siirty\u00e4 kaikille samana koetusta l\u00e4hestymistavasta kohti yksil\u00f6llisi\u00e4 strategioita sairauksien ennaltaehk\u00e4isyss\u00e4 ja terveen ik\u00e4\u00e4ntymisen edist\u00e4misess\u00e4.<\/p>\n<p>Yhdist\u00e4mme genetiikkaa, epigenetiikkaa, proteomiikkaa, metabolomiikkaa ja muita edistyksellisi\u00e4 omiikkateknologioita yksityiskohtaisiin el\u00e4m\u00e4ntapa- ja terveystietoihin paljastaaksemme biologisia mekanismeja, jotka muovaavat pitk\u00e4n aikav\u00e4lin terveyskehityst\u00e4. Ty\u00f6mme integroi laajoja v\u00e4est\u00f6tutkimuksia (kuten Suomen kaksoskohortin, FinnGenin, UK Biobankin sek\u00e4 kliinisi\u00e4 interventiotutkimuksia) luoden ainutlaatuisen viitekehyksen sille, miten geenit, ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6 ja k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyminen vaikuttavat yhdess\u00e4 l\u00e4pi el\u00e4m\u00e4nkaaren.<\/p>\n<p>Keskitymme ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n tervett\u00e4 ja ep\u00e4tervett\u00e4 lihavuutta, sill\u00e4 kaikki lihavuus ei ole samanlaista. Samanpainoisilla yksil\u00f6ill\u00e4 voi olla huomattavan erilaiset terveystulokset. Tavoitteenamme on tunnistaa ne molekyylitason tekij\u00e4t sek\u00e4 geneettiset tekij\u00e4t, jotka erottavat korkean riskin lihavuuden metabolisesti terveest\u00e4 lihavuudesta.<\/p>\n<p>Kehit\u00e4mme edistyksellisi\u00e4 geneettisi\u00e4 ja multiomiikkamenetelmi\u00e4 ennustaaksemme yksil\u00f6llisi\u00e4 terveysriskej\u00e4, tunnistaaksemme lihavuuteen liittyvien sairauksien taustalla olevia biologisia reittej\u00e4 ja ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4\u00e4ksemme, miksi jotkut yksil\u00f6t ovat vastustuskykyisempi\u00e4 liialliselle rasvakudokselle kuin toiset. Ty\u00f6mme ainutlaatuinen n\u00e4k\u00f6kulma on evoluutiobiologian k\u00e4ytt\u00e4minen viitekehyksen\u00e4 lihavuuden ja metabolisen terveyden ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4misess\u00e4. Tutkimalla sek\u00e4 ihmispopulaatioita ett\u00e4 el\u00e4imalleja, mukaan lukien luonnonvaraisia ja tarhattuja kuningaspingviinej\u00e4, selvit\u00e4mme, heijasteleeko metabolinen joustavuus evoluutionaarista sopeutumista energian varastointiin ja ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n muutoksiin.<\/p>\n<p>Mitokondriot, solujemme energiantuotantoelimet, ovat keskeisess\u00e4 roolissa aineenvaihdunnassa, ik\u00e4\u00e4ntymisess\u00e4 ja terveydess\u00e4. Tutkimme, miksi joillakin yksil\u00f6ill\u00e4 tapahtuu mitokondrioiden toiminnan heikkenemist\u00e4, mik\u00e4 nopeuttaa ik\u00e4\u00e4ntymist\u00e4 ja vaikeuttaa pitk\u00e4aikaista painonhallintaa, kun taas toiset s\u00e4ilytt\u00e4v\u00e4t terveemm\u00e4n solutoiminnan l\u00e4pi el\u00e4m\u00e4n.<\/p>\n<p>Hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 genetiikan kannalta informatiivisia tutkimusasetelmia, interventiotutkimuksia ja molekyylitason analyyseja pyrimme paljastamaan syy-seuraussuhteita mitokondrioiden toimintah\u00e4iri\u00f6iden, lihavuuden ja biologisen ik\u00e4\u00e4ntymisen v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Tutkimme, miten geneettinen vaihtelu, el\u00e4m\u00e4ntavatekij\u00e4t ja epigeneettinen s\u00e4\u00e4tely vaikuttavat mitokondrioiden terveyteen ja m\u00e4\u00e4ritt\u00e4v\u00e4t vasteita interventioihin, kuten laihdutshoitoihin ja mitokondrioihin kohdistettuihin terapioihin.<\/p>\n<p>Tutkimuksemme keskeinen tavoite on siirt\u00e4\u00e4 biologiset l\u00f6yd\u00f6kset k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n ty\u00f6kaluiksi yksil\u00f6llisen l\u00e4\u00e4ketieteen ja kansanterveyden tarpeisiin. Yhdist\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 multiomiikka-aineistoja edistyksellisiin biologisen ik\u00e4\u00e4ntymisen biomarkkereihin, kuten epigeneettisiin ja proteomisiin kelloihin, pyrimme tunnistamaan ne henkil\u00f6t, joilla on suurin riski ennenaikaiseen ik\u00e4\u00e4ntymiseen ja lihavuuteen liittyviin sairauksiin jo ennen kliinisten oireiden ilmaantumista.<\/p>\n<p>Lopulta visionamme on mahdollistaa t\u00e4sm\u00e4llisempi ennaltaehk\u00e4isy, pident\u00e4\u00e4 elinajanodetta ja tukea koko v\u00e4est\u00f6n terveemp\u00e4\u00e4
